4. Mine That Bird – 2009Mine That Bird makes this list not only for being the second-biggest upset winner in Derby history at an insane 50-1, but also for mounting a classic comeback with astounding speed and skill. This birds eye view video below is the perfect way to watch the gelding find a nearly imperceptible bit of space and slide up the rail almost unnoticed. And once Mine That Bird found an opening, the rest was raw power.3. Unbridled – 1990After falling all the way down to 11th place at the halfway mark, things didnt look good for this 11-1 shot. But true to its name, this horse could not be constrained, and mounted a legendary charge, eventually winning the race by four lengths. Amazingly, Unbridleds insane comeback wasnt even the most entertaining part of this race. For that youll have to watch trainer Carl Nafzger screaming in the face of the horses 92-year-old owner Frances Genter: "Hes taking the lead! Hes gonna win! Hes the winner! He won it! Oh, Mrs. Genter, I love you!!!" 2. Grindstone – 1996Easily one of the closest races in Derby history, the 1996 running featured Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey at arguably his finest moment, guiding Grindstone, the son of Unbridled, to an unforgettable finish. Bailey had dropped as far back as 15th place in the early going before taking his colt way outside for a stretch drive showdown with Cavonnier that saw Grindstone somehow eke out the victory on the final stride of the race.1. Secretariat – 1973.The horse, the myth, the legend. Secretariat was a heavy favourite going into the race, but he was astonishingly sluggish out of the gate. A minute into the race, Shecky Greene was the frontrunner, with Secretariat in sixth place. Despite the slow start, Secretariat came through late, scoring a Kentucky Derby record time of 1:59 2/5 that stands to this day. The cause of his blazing speed? After Secretariats death in 1989, an autopsy revealed that his heart was almost two-and-a-half times larger than that of the average horse.TSN airs the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby today (Saturday, May 3) at 4 p.m. ET. Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Colin Kaepernick threw two touchdown passes to lift San Francisco to a 20-17 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Jim Harbaughs final game as the 49ers head coach. Harbaugh and the 49ers have agreed to part ways following the game, making Harbaugh available to pursue other head coaching opportunities. According to several reports, Harbaugh is expected to replace Brady Hoke as the head coach of his alma mater, Michigan. Its been the time of my life. Theres been a lot of memories, great moments, said Harbaugh. I feel like Im going to be friends for life with anybody who wants to be. I truly love this team. Kaepernick completed 15-of-26 passes for 204 yards and rushed for 63 yards on seven carries. Anquan Boldin and Bruce Miller had a receiving touchdown and Frank Gore carried the ball 25 times for 144 yards for the 49ers (8-cool , who ended a four-game skid. Ryan Lindley threw both of his first two career touchdown passes to Michael Floyd and completed 23-of-39 passes for 316 yards with three interceptions for the Cardinals (11-5). Floyd made eight catches for 153 yards Its a loss and no one wants to lose in the NFL, but I think we gained some confidence, said Lindley. We ran the ball a lot better this week. We did a great job of pass protection ... Floyd had a great day. Arizona will return to the playoffs for the first time since 2009 and face the NFC South champion Carolina Panthers on the road in the first round. The Cardinals moved the ball past midfield on their first possession of the second half, but Chris Culliver picked off Lindley. Kaepernick scrambled for a 30-yard pickup and Gore ran 20 yards to the Arizona 31 before the 49ers quarterback took off for 15 more yards and a fresh set of downs. Boldin had a 9-yard touchdown catch called back on 3rd-and-goal due to Marcus Martins chop block. After an Arizona illegal use of hands penalty, Gore ran nine yards and Kaepernick hit Miller in the right corner of the end zone for a 20-17 edge with 25 seconds to play in the third. Arizona got the ball with two minutes remaining. Lindley was sacked for a nine-yard loss by Aaron Lynch and then picked off by Craig Dahl with 1:30 remaining. The Cardinals struck first on their opening drive off a flea flicker as Lindley aired out a pass over the middle to Floyd, who caught the ball in the back of the end zone for a 20-yard score. San Francisco answered right back as Kaepernick hit Boldin in stride and the former Cardinal took it 76 yards down the field for a 7-7 game with 9:24 left in the first quarter. Kaepernick scrambled 19 yards to midfield and completed an 8-yard pass to Michael Crabtree on third down. Phil Dawsons 53-yard field goal made it just over the uprights for a 10-7 lead over three minutes into the second. Lindley fired a 27-yard pass to Floyd, who made a stellar catch to move the Cardinals to the 49ers 24. San Franciscos defense stood tall as Tank Carradine sacked Lindley for an 8-yard loss before Michael Wilhoite intercepted the ball at his teams 25. Following the interception, Kaepernick sent a 35-yard dart to Quinton Patton to move the chains down to the Arizona 18. Dawson was true from 37 yards out for a 13-7 advantage with 6:04 to play in the second. Arizona countered by scoring 10 points with under two minutes to play. Chandler Catanzaro booted a 36-yard field goal to cut the 49ers lead to 13-10 with 1:35 left in the first half. After a quick San Francisco three-and-out, Lindley lofted a 41-yard pass to Floyd, who was hit by at the two-yard line and flew over the pylon for a 17-13 Arizona lead heading into halftime. Game Notes Gore became the 11th player in NFL history to register eight career 1,000-yard seasons ... Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald passed wide receiver Charlie Joiner for 21st place on the NFLs all-time receiving yardage list with 12,151 ... San Francisco has won eight straight regular-season home finales ... The 49ers lead the all-time series, 29-18 ... Arizona outgained San Francisco, 397-395. Cheap Air Jordan 6 Ireland . "We want to make sure that the officials are as prepared as they can be," Glen Johnson said Wednesday. "Were improving all of our training and development efforts. Were trying to evaluate them more consistently. Were going to make officials accountable for their performance." He said those who perform the best on the field will work the most, and the evaluation wont just include the usual crop of retired officials but will also include selected groups of coaches asked to provide feedback. Johnson spent 24 years as a referee and head referee in the league before being appointed to this new position in December. The leagues board of governors will be voting May 8 on proposed new rules this season and Johnson is currently touring all CFL cities to meet with teams and discuss those as well as other issues, such as a move to codify infractions more clearly in simple language. He said officials, players and coaches will know with more certainty what is and what isnt going to draw a flag. The proposed rule change that has drawn the most attention so far is a plan to make defensive pass interference subject to challenge and review by video replay but Johnson says there are many more. "Theres player-safety related ones where were eliminating some illegal low blocks. I think thats going to have a really positive impact on the game. Keeping players safe and healthy and having them play more is a good thing." Others are designed to improve game flow, such as not stopping to allow defensive substitutions if theere are no offensive substitutions.dddddddddddd. "I think youre going to see a higher tempo," says Johnson. "Youre going to see more offensive output and more plays in a game, which I think just continues to add to our exciting game." Many quarterbacks in the league also may be happy with a proposal to allow them to use their own teams balls. "Were going to allow quarterbacks to condition and use their own footballs. . . Theyll be league-supplied footballs that they can condition, practice with during the week then they can bring them to the game and, as long as they meet a new ball standard, that quarterback can use his own balls during the game." As an example, he said some like to remove the new-ball finish while others may like to use a tack cloth on their ball. They must still be inspected by the referee to ensure they havent been doctored beyond league standards, but both teams will have their balls stamped so they remain separate during the game. The host team will supply balls for kicks that both teams will use. There will also be stricter curbs on taunting and objectionable conduct, including the verbal abuse of officials. Besides making pass interference subject to coaches challenge and review, there will be automatic reviews of all turnovers. The leagues board of governors must vote on all the proposed changes but Johnson says, historically, they have usually given their approval. But the one that did not get approved unanimously by the rules committee was the change regarding pass interference. Johnson says its one of the hardest calls for an official to make, given that theyre often far away from the spot where the play is being made and their view is sometimes blocked. The 15-year sentence breaks down to seven years in prison, with four suspended, and probation for eight.Forty-three-year-old Monica Murphy died in the May 2013 head-on crash. Blaylocks attorneys have said a medical condition caused the ex-player to black out on the road and no alcohol was found in his system.Palmer says the deal calls for the prison sentence to be cut to three years as long as Blaylock serves 1,500 hours of community service and seeks treatment for alcoholism.Blaylock was a first-round draft pick by the New Jersey Nets in 1989. Brandon Crawford and Pablo Sandoval homered Friday, and the Giants totalled 13 hits to beat the Miami Marlins 9-1. All-Star Madison Bumgarner (11-7), relishing the support, allowed one run in six innings. "Good to see everybody playing like that," Bumgarner said. "I guess everybody had a good All-Star break." With the victory, San Francisco overtook the Los Angeles Dodgers atop the division and leads by one percentage point. The Giants began the night averaging less than three runs per game in July, worst in the majors, but theyve totalled 17 runs in their past two games. Those wins came after an 11-22 stretch that cost them first place in the NL West. "This is who we were the first 60-plus games," manager Bruce Bochy said. "Then we turned into a different team." The Marlins lost their fifth game in a row and have dropped 21 of their past 31 to fall seven games under .500 for the first time. "It wasnt what we had drawn up coming back from the break," third baseman Casey McGehee said. "We need to pick it up really quick." San Francisco led 9-0 before Miamis Giancarlo Stanton hit his 22nd home run, most in the NL. His drive passed the home-run sculpture and caromed off the backdrop beyond the centre-field wall. "It was a pretty good pitch, I thought," Bumgarner said. "But everyone knows how far he can hit the ball." Crawford set the tone for the Giants, hitting the 11th pitch he saw for a two-run homer in the second inning off Nathan Eovaldi (5-5). "To have a good at-bat early in the game and get us on the board felt really good," he said. Sandoval hit a three-run homer, his 12th, to end Eovaldis night in the Giants five-run fifth. Sandoval improveed to 8 for 11 lifetime against Eovaldi with nine RBIs.dddddddddddd. Buster Posey and Michael Morse each had three of San Franciscos 13 hits. The Giants scored their first four runs with two outs and went 6 for 11 with runners in scoring position. Bumgarner lowered his ERA to 3.38, but also struck out three times to drop his batting average to .256. "Ill trade the not hitting very good for pitching good any day," he said. Eovaldi gave up a season-high eight runs in his shortest outing of the year, lasting just four-plus innings. He came into the game with a career ERA of 12.27 against the Giants, and it went up -- to 13.30 in five starts. "Theyve been able to hit his fastball," Miami manager Mike Redmond said. "They take advantage of any mistake that he seems to make. I dont know if theyve got something on him, but theyve been able to do quite a bit of damage." Crawfords eighth homer put the Giants ahead 2-0. They added two more runs in the third on two-out RBI singles by Posey and Morse. Hunter Pence and Morse each doubled and scored in the fifth. PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Rory McIlroy birdied his last two holes Thursday for a 7-under 63 to take the lead after one round of the Honda Classic. It was quite a turnaround for McIlroy, who last year was 7 over through eight holes of the second round when he walked off PGA National out of frustration. He looked more like the free-wheeling kid who won this tournament two years ago to rise to No. 1 in the world. McIlroy buried a few long putts to help the cause, though his game was solid through a cloudy afternoon. He was one shot ahead of Russell Henley, who birdied five of his opening six holes before cooling. David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., opened with a 3-under 67. Mike Weir of Brights Grove, Ont., shot a 72, and Calgarys Stephen Ames was another shot back at 73. Tiger Woods, playing for the first time in a month, was eight shots behind after a 71. LOUIS -- Sam Bradford is done for the season, and the burden for the St. Louis Rams has just become a whole lot bigger. The quarterback will have will have season-ending surgery for a torn ligament in his left knee, a major blow to a team seeking its first winning record in a decade. He was hurt in the fourth quarter of Sundays 30-15 loss at Carolina that dropped the Rams to 3-4. "Even if Sam wasnt hurt, wed still have some heavy lifting to do," centre Scott Wells said after the game. "But this adds extra to it." The extent of the injury was revealed on an MRI exam late Sunday after the return flight, and the team announced the results Monday. Coach Jeff Fisher was to provide details at an afternoon news conference. Bradford tore his anterior cruciate ligament when he landed on his knee after being shoved out of bounds by safety Mike Mitchell. Fisher said after the game that Bradford was in "significant pain" on the sideline. Teammates feared the worst once they saw him carted off the field and on crutches in the locker room. Kellen Clemens filled in for Bradford and is the only other quarterback on the roster, with the team a week away from a Monday night home game against the Seahawks. Austin Davis, released late in training camp, is perhaps the leading potential backup. Braadford has 14 touchdown passes and just four interceptions this season.dddddddddddd Still, he has his detractors, critics who insist he has not measured up to the billing of a No. 1 overall pick. But now in his fourth season out of Oklahoma, Bradford has been nudging his way up the ladder, surely among the top half of the leagues best quarterbacks. Hes been taking charge and minimizing mistakes -- exactly what the youngest team in the NFL needed. Bradford threw for 255 yards and a score Sunday, with one interception and two sacks. He has thrown a touchdown pass in 11 consecutive games. St. Louis had won its previous two games, with Bradford throwing three TD passes in each. Bradford is no stranger to injuries. He missed six games with a high left ankle sprain in 2011. He had season-ending shoulder surgery in 2009 when he was at Oklahoma. Clemens made three starts in 2011 but hadnt played this year until replacing Bradford against Carolina. He has made 12 career starts, seven of them with the New York Jets in 2007. "Its never easy when you see a teammate go down," he said after the game. "When you see a person that you spend as much time with as I do with Sam and genuinely care about as a person. ... NEW YORK -- California Chrome went home to the West Coast on Sunday with a bandaged right front foot -- and no Triple Crown -- after bumping another horse leaving the Belmont Stakes starting gate. Steve Coburn, who co-owns California Chome, was still smarting, too. He was irked Belmont winner Tonalist didnt run in either of the first two legs of the Triple Crown. After the race, he complained others took "the cowards way out" by skipping the Derby and/or the Preakness. A day later, Coburn was unrepentant. "Its not fair to these horses that are running to entertain these people in all three legs of the Triple Crown," he said. "Its not fair to them to have somebody just show up at the last minute and run. I may have gone off half-cocked yesterday, but thats the way I feel." Under Coburns premise, there would have been just three horses in the $1.5 million Belmont, making it unlikely the third-largest crowd of 102,199 would have shown up or that a record $19,105,877 would have been wagered on-track. California Chrome, General a Rod and Ride On Curlin were the only horses to run in the Derby, Preakness and Belmont. General a Rod finished seventh and Ride On Curlin did not finish. Art Sherman, the 77-year-old trainer of California Chrome, distanced himself from Coburns comments. "Horses arent cowards and the people arent cowards," he said. "He was at the heat of the moment. Dont forget hes a fairly new owner. Sometimes your emotions get in front of you. He hasnt been in the game long and hasnt had any bad luck." Coburn and Perry Martin named their racing operation Dumb Ass Partners, with California Chrome the lone horse in their stable. The chestnut colt has earned $3,317,800 this year and brought a six-race winning streak into the Belmont. California Chrome had smooth trips in winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness to set up a shot at racings first Triple Crown in 36 years. But he had a rough trip in the 1 1/2-mile Belmont on Saturday, getting a chunk of flesh torn from his foot after bumping with Matterhorn coming out of the starting gate. California Chrome finished in a dead heat for fourth with Wicked Strong. "It was kind of scary. You come back and see a horse bleeding from the foot," Sherman said. "Hes never had anything wrong with him. Weve been awful fortunate." Sherman said California Chrome has a superficial wound that should heal in two to three weeks. The colt will then rest for six to seven weeks after a tough Triple Crown campaign that involved running in three races at different tracks and distances over five weeks. His camp plans to point him toward the Breeders Cup this fall at Santa Anita. Sherman thought Coburn would apologize for his comments. Instead, the outspoken co-owner went even further Sunday. "It wouldnt be fair if I played basketball with a child in a wheelchair because I got an unfair advantage," Coburn said. "If your horse is good enough to run in the Belmont, where was he in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness? It says Triple Crown, not one out of two, one out of three or two out of three." Sherman said, "I cant make excuses. Thats not really what you should do in these type of races." Frenchman Christophe Clement, who won his first Triple Crown race with Totalist, declined to comment on Coburns remarks. Coburn had predicted California Chrome would win the Triple Crown. "If they want to call me a sore loser, I dont care," he said. Horses are made eligible for the Triple Crown races in January. Owners and trainers of horses not nominated can pay a late fee of $6,000 in March to get in. The 20-horse field for the Kentucky Derby is decided by a points system, with horses earning points for running in prep races. The Preakness and Belmont have maximum fields of 14, but no points system is used. Its common for horses to drop in and out of the Triple Crown series. In 1978, when Affirmed won the Triple Crown, the Belmont had a five-horse field. Two of the colts rivals did not run in the first two legs and one only ran in the Derby. In 1977, Seattle Slew won the Triple Crown. The Belmont had eight horses, and five did not run in the first two legs. One ran only in the Preakness, and one other besides Slew raced in all three legs. On Saturday, second-place finisher Commissioner was new to the Triple Crown series. Winner Tonalist wasnt ready for the Derby, so trainer Clement prepared him for the Belmont. "California Chrome was running with tough, fresh horses that were waiting in the wings, and thats what happens," Sherman said. "We all know when youre on this trail you got to have an iron horse." The veteran trainer hopes California Chromes owners will keep him running next year as a 4-year-old. He credited the colt for having a lot of talent and taking his handlers on an exciting ride. "This is one of them races that we couldnt win," Sherman said, "but he didnt disgrace us any." Andrew Adams Jersey . LONDON - England defender Glen Johnson has bad news for his country: his Liverpool teammate and Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has told him he expects to be fit for their World Cup match. Suarez is doubtful for the Group D match on June 19 after undergoing knee surgery last Thursday. But Johnson said he spoke with Suarez earlier this week and the striker did not seem worried. Johnson, who has been included in Englands squad for the World Cup, said Suarez "doesnt think that it is that bad so he thinks he will be OK." Suarez scored a Premier League-leading 31 goals for Liverpool this season and was voted player of the year in England by the players association. After rallying to tie the game 4-4 in the top of the eighth inning, Elvis Andrus ended it in the bottom of the ninth to send Houston to its third straight loss, 5-4 against the AL West-leading Rangers. Houston fell to 2-14 against the Rangers this season with three more to play against its in-state rival in late September. "Ive said this the entire time — the resilience of that group in there, I am extremely proud of them," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "They fight all the way to the end. We come up short sometimes but I would never question the resilience they have, like they showed today." During a wild eighth inning, Rangers reliever Tanner Scheppers gave up three hits, one walk, hit two batters and threw two wild pitches to surrender a Texas lead. Scheppers allowed a hit to open the eighth and quickly erased it by getting L.J. Hoes to ground into a double play. Then the bottom fell out for the Texas right-hander. Jose Altuve singled, advanced to third on the two wild pitches and scored on Chris Carters bloop single to pull the Astros to 4-3. Scheppers then hit Matt Dominguez on the left shoulder to load the bases before throwing a pitch that glanced off Stassis shoulder and into his face, knocking his helmet to the ground. Jason Castro scored to tie the game 4-4 and give Stassi — who was clearly bleeding as he was led off the field — the first RBI of his career. He was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. "We will get a full report once they run all the tests," Astros Manager Bo Porter said of Stassi after the game. "We dont have an update right now but it was definitely a scary situation. "That is a very painful way to get your first RBI." It took Chia-Jen Lo (0-1) only four pitches to get three Texas outs in the bottom of the eighth, but the right-hander took the loss for Houston after giving up Andrus hit that scored pinch runner Adam Rosales. As Andrus came up to bat with one out and the bases loaded in the ninth, the Astros moved left fielder Chris Carter to first base to add a fifth infielder.dddddddddddd "Weve fought every game. Its a tribute to these guys in this clubhouse," left fielder Robbie Grossman said. "Were never out of a game, no matter what the score is, were just going to play our type of baseball and play it hard. Its tough to lose like that." Texas closer Joe Nathan (4-2) shut down the Astros in the ninth to get the win. Craig Gentry homered and scored three times for Texas, one on a perfect squeeze bunt by Andrus in the seventh that gave Texas a 4-2 lead. Castro homered and scored three runs for the Astros. Texas starter Derek Holland pitched six-plus innings, leaving in the seventh after giving up a single to Castro and consecutive walks to load the bases with no outs. Joakim Soria came on in relief and got Stassi to ground into a double play, scoring Castro to trim the Astros deficit to 3-2. Holland gave up four hits and two earned runs while striking out five and walking three. Astros starter Erik Bedard pitched 4 1-3 innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits with four walks. NOTES: Rangers rookie RHP Nick Tepesch, on the DL since July 6 with right elbow inflammation, said he felt good after a bullpen session. He expects to throw live BP on the teams road trip that starts Friday. ... LHP Travis Blackley will apparently stay in the Texas rotation. "As of right now, hes going to get his next start," manager Ron Washington said. Blackley threw 66 pitches over four innings Tuesday night in place of injured Alexi Ogando. The next turn for that spot is Monday night at Seattle. ... In the second, Bedard took an Adrian Beltre come-backer off the inside of his right ankle, but he stayed in the game after being evaluated by team trainers. In the seventh, Holland took a Jason Castro line drive off his left forearm, but he also remained on the hill after being examined. ... Alex Rios stole second in the sixth inning, giving him 30 stolen bases — his third season reaching that plateau. Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - A costly penalty by Benoit Pouliot led to the Reds Wings game-winning goal with 34 seconds remaining in regulation as Detroit pulled out a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Jordan Eberles second goal of the night evened things at 2-2 late in the third period, but Pouliots head-scratching spearing penalty with 2:29 on the clock put the Oilers in a bind. A scrum in front resulted in the puck getting accidentally knocked into the net by Edmontons Matt Hendricks with time winding down. Pavel Datsyuk was credited with the goal, and Luke Glendening sealed things with an empty- netter. Justin Abdelkader and Kyle Quincey also scored for the Red Wings, who have won eight straight against the Oilers and four of six overall. We were getting a lot of chances out there, Quincey said. Were happy to come out of here with two points. Jimmy Howard made 21 saves to pick up the win, while his counterpart, Vikor Fasth, posted 37 saves in defeat. Eberle scored a power-play goal at the 15:29 mark of the first period, and Detroit pulled even midway through the middle stanza. Quincey caught a fortunate bounce when his first shot hit off a defensemans skate and fell back on his stick. Fasth was on his knees for the original shot, and Quincey went top shelf for his second goal of the season. Eberle was whistled for tripping with 1:40 remaining, and on the first shift after the penalty, the Red Wings won a faceoff in the offensive zone and set up Niklas Kronwall at the point. Abdelkaders deft deflection of Kronwalls slap shot found a space between Fasths pads and went in at the 18:29 mark. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up the tying goal by threading the needle with a cross-ice pass between Howard and a defenseman, and Eberle cashed in with 4:05 remaining. It was good to see Jordan pop a couple like that. It was good to see him moving his feet and really competing, Oilers interim head coach Todd Nelson said. Game Notes Abdelkader has already tied his career high with 10 goals ... Howard improved to 11-1-2 in 14 career games against Edmonton ... What a successful, memorable trip she had to the Bay Area. Ko turned 17 and had "Happy Birthday" sung to her at the first tee box to kick off the inaugural Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, earned a spot as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine, and captured her first LPGA Tour title as a professional — all while playing with a fill-in caddie from the local club. "Normally they would say sweet 16, but I would say its sweet 17," Ko said. "I dont think I could have any better birthday week." Poised and unflappable, Ko made the perfect pitch up to the green from the rough to birdie the final hole Sunday, holding off Stacy Lewis and Jenny Shin for her third LPGA win in all. It went down to the final shots, and the teen made a 6-foot birdie putt moments before Lewis knocked in a 4-footer of her own to finish one stroke back. After beginning the day a stroke behind Lewis, Ko birdied three of her final four holes on the front nine on the way to a 3-under 69 and 12-under 276 total at Lake Merced. Ko earned $270,000, celebrating on the 18th green three days after celebrating her birthday at the first tee box with the gallery singing "Happy Birthday." Ko, born in South Korea and raised in New Zealand, will move up two spots to No. 2 in the next world ranking. Her father, G.H., got to see her win Sunday. "Tears nearly ran down my face. You may lose friends, but youre always going to have your parents," Ko said. "I try to make myself not cry of happiness, but it was coming to that point." She won the Canadian Womens Open as an amateur the last two years and took the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters in December in Taiwan in her second start as a professional. She has six victories in pro events, also winning in Australia and New Zealand. All three of Kos LPGA wins have come on courses most of the other golfers also played for the first time. The third-ranked Lewis finished with a 71 for her sixth runner-up finish since winning the Womens British Open in August. She will head to her home state of Texas next week loooking to build on a disappointing near miss in which she struggled all day with her short game.dddddddddddd "I knew she wasnt going away. Lydia played great," Lewis said. "Every time I hit a shot in there, she answered." Shin, still looking for her first tour win after her best finish this year, had a 68 to finish two shots behind. "They were fearless," Shin said about her playing partners, "They just went for it." Playing together for the fourth straight day, neither Ko nor Lewis hit any dazzling shots early. Kos second of three bogeys came on the 417-yard, par-4 seventh in which her tee shot hit a tree and dropped in the rough. Lewis 10-foot birdie putt on No. 9 lipped out. Ko pulled into a first-place tie at 10 under as they made the turn on a picture-perfect spring day, then took the lead with a birdie on No. 13. Lewis went in the bunker, missed the green and two-putted for bogey to fall two back. "The front nine, I did everything I wanted to do, the putts just didnt go in," Lewis said. "I expected her to do exactly what she did today. ... She hit every shot she needed to make from 13 on in." There were two holes-in-one Sunday: Jimin Kang on the 164-yard third and Dewi Claire Schreefel with a 7-iron on the 157-yard 12th hole that earned her a $100,000 prize from China Trust Bank. The weather held for the final day after fog and rain delays earlier in the tournament. This event was the LPGAs first in the Bay Area since the 2010 CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge at Blackhawk in Danville. Organizers and club officials are optimistic about keeping the tournament at Lake Merced. Donna Lowe, Lake Merced general manager, hopes an announcement would come within a month to begin planning for 2015. San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee has spoken with Swinging Skirts Chairman Johnson Wang, while Lowe has received positive feedback from LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan, players and their caddies. "So far, its just been amazing and very positive and uplifting," Lowe said of the feedback. DIVOTS: Michelle Wie, who won last week in her home state of Hawaii, tied for ninth at 2 under. They racked up 358 yards after being held to 223, their lowest total since 2008, a week earlier in a 19-7 loss at Detroit. They intercepted Jay Cutler twice in the third quarter to pull away from the Bears (2-2). That gave Green Bay five straight wins at Soldier Field, including the NFC title game four years ago and a playoffs-or-bust finale for both teams last season.Rodgers called on Packers fans to take a deep breath during the week, and he gave them reason to exhale with this performance.I just wanted to remind everybody that its a long season, and at some point, were going to get this thing figured out, Rodgers said.He had all the answers in this one, which allowed Green Bay to join the Bears (732) as the only teams with at least 700 regular-season wins.Rodgers posted a 151.2 rating for the game, completing 22 of 28 passes, and had all the time he needed with five-time Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen sitting out because of an illness. He threw two touchdown passes each to Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson, and a fifth got called back by a penalty. That happened early in the third when a scrambling Rodgers got hit by at least one defender while unleashing an awkward, wobbly 34-yard pass that somehow connected with Davante Adams in the end zone.Cobb had seven catches for 113 yards. Nelson had 10 receptions for 108 yards, and the Packers came away with the win despite allowing 496 yards. The offences were so effective a€” or the defences struggled so badly a€” that neither team punted. That happened only once before in a regular-season NFL game, 22 years ago.Interesting, Nelson said. Obviously, turnovers were a big thing. Its fun, especially when youre putting up points and having a good time. The Bears basically matched Green Bay score for score before Cutler threw those interceptions. He wound up passing for 256 yards and two TDs but fell to 1-10 lifetime against Green Bay, counting the post-season.Matt Forte ran for 122 yards on 23 carries. Martellus Bennett had nine catches for a career-high 134 yards, but Chicago came up short after back-to-back wins at San Francisco and the New York Jets.I thought we were playing well, I thought we were moving the ball well, Cutler said. We were changing it up. I thought (coach Marc Trestman) called a really good game. We just had some unfortunate things happen to us that kind of derailed us, and they didnt.Mason Crosby kicked a 53-yard field goal on the opening possession of the second half to extend the Packers lead to 24-17, and things unraveled for the Bears after that.Chicago had the ball on the Green Bay 24 when Cutler hit cornerback Tramon Williams in the chest with a pass. The ball ricocheted to Clay Matthews, who returned it 45 yards. That led to an 11-yard scoring pass from Rodgers to Nelson, making it 31-17.Another interception set up another TD for the Packers. This time, Brandon Marshall went long when Cutler expected him to cut back toward the quarterback. The pass went right to Sam Shields, who crossed the field on a 62-yard return to put the ball at the 11. Chicagos Jonathan Bostic got called for a hold, negating a field goal by Crosby to start the fourth quarter, and Rodgers hit Cobb from the 3 to make it 38-17.The Packers took a 21-17 lead to the locker room after the two teams combined for 508 yards. Chicago missed a touchdown by inches when Bennett got stopped just short of the end zone on an 8-yard catch. Cutler thought Bennett reached across the goal line before getting taken down, but the call was upheld after a review. Then, in the third quarter, Green Bay created some breathing room.I dont feel like I need to prove anything, but it sure is nice when people start doubting us to go out and have a performance like this, Rodgers said.Notes: The only other regular-season game without a punt was between Buffalo and San Francisco on Sept. 13, 1992. ... Green Bays Julius Peppers was in on two tackles in his return to Soldier Field, and fans booed the former Bear when he stopped Forte on the games first play from scrimmage. ... That continued Tuesday when the commissioner reiterated the league has no official expansion plans in the offing. It wont happen for the 2014-15 season and maybe not even in 2015-16, but that hasnt stopped the calls from pouring in. "Were getting lots of expressions of interest, and no decisions have been made to do anything other than listen," Bettman said after the leagues board of governors meeting wrapped up. We havent embarked on a formal expansion process, but when people want to talk to us, we listen." If the NHL listens and decides to move forward with expanding at some point in the near future, Quebec City, Seattle and Toronto figure to be the front-runners. But Bettman insisted theres no ranking of potential cities and that no decision has been made to expand. Thats despite uneven conferences right now -- 16 teams in the East and 14 in the West -- that deputy commissioner Bill Daly conceded was a bit of misalignment. Getting up to 32 would make for four divisions of eight teams each and solve the disparity in playoff odds. It seems like a natural move, especially considering the expansion fees the NHL could get. But Bettman said a few things must be looked at before considering a place. "When theres an expression of interest, you look at three factors predominately, show-stoppers so to speak," he said. "You want to understand the market and can it support NHL hockey? Would it be a good addition to the league? Two, youve got to have an arena andd three, and perhaps most important, it comes down to ownership.dddddddddddd" Ownership is one of the keys to the NHLs success in the big picture. Bettman was quick to point to negative attention around the Phoenix Coyotes and how theyve been sold along with the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils within the past six months. "My my, how far weve come since the summer, when all the articles and speculation were about all these franchises that were supposedly in trouble, which we never believed were," Bettman said. "The franchises have never been stronger. So we went from relocation in your view and distress to now we should be expanding. Everybody needs to slow down. We dont operate like that. Everything in due course. If, in fact, theres a due course to pursue." The city of Markham, Ontario, recently struck down plans to build an NHL-ready arena as the league made it clear it should not happen with the hopes of getting a team. An arena is being built in Quebec City, and one could be on the way in Seattle to lure an NBA team, as well. "I clearly have acknowledged that the Pacific Northwest has a strong interest in hockey," Daly said of the Seattle expansion possibility. As of now everything is just a possibility. But just drawing interest isnt a bad thing. "The fact is there are lots of expressions of interest from lots of different places and thats great, its gratifying," Bettman said. "It shows the business and the game are healthy because there is so much interest and people want to be a part of the game and invest in the game." James Reimer will likely start in goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday when they face the Washington Capitals in a rare afternoon game. Jonathan Bernier left Thursdays game against the Los Angeles Kings with a lower-body injury and was replaced by Reimer, who stopped every shot he faced to pick up the 3-2 victory. Bernier did not practice on Saturday and the club recalled netminder Drew MacIntyre from the AHLs Toronto Marlies. Head coach Randy Carlyle said Bernier got treatment on Saturday and a decision will be made about whether hell need an MRI. "We dont think its that severe, but you always want to make sure," Carlyle said Saturday. Reimer starting on Sunday would mark just the third time this season hes played in three straight games. His win on Thursday in LA was his first since beating the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 21 - a stretch of more than 50 days between victories. "You can work on stuff in practice but to get in a groove, you got to get in there on multiple nights; feel the game, feel the flow," said Reimer. Also absent from Saturdays practice was defecneman Dion Phaneuf. The team captain has been dealing with "bumps and bruises" missing a practice for "maintenance" last week and is now dealing with a bad case of the flu. Carlyle called Phaneuf "probable" for Sundays game in Washington and expects him to get an IV for fluids. Balenciaga Shoes Wholesale China . BEREA, Ohio -- Browns coach Mike Pettine says he expects Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel to get equal reps with the first-team offence next Monday night against Washington. Manziel played with the first-team offence during Tuesday mornings practice, but Pettine said afterward that no decision has been made as to who will start the Browns second preseason game. But it wont necessarily matter, as Pettine wants both quarterbacks to get equal reps or close to it with the first-teamers. Whether thats by series, by quarter or by something else remains to be seen. Pettine said "theres a lot of options on the table" and the staff would figure it out when it meets during the teams off-day on Thursday. That includes deciding who will actually start the game. "Just the factor of starting a game I think is a little bit overblown in this situation because were going to try to balance the reps with the ones in the game," Pettine said. "Brian came in ahead and its a little overrated who trots out there for the first time." No matter what happens next Monday night, though, people are going to tune in to watch. Manziels debut last Saturday against the Lions drew 2.82 million viewers, making it the highest-rated and most-watched preseason game on the NFL Network. Quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains spoke to the media after practice, saying there was still no clear-cut leader in the competition. "I dont think well make the decision based on that (game)," Loggains said. "But its a body of work that theyre accumulating, putting together, and thats how well make the decision." Loggains was in the news after the NFL draft when he said in a radio interview on ESPN Arkansas that Manziel, before he was drafted, sent him a text that read: "I wish you guys wouldd come get me.dddddddddddd Hurry up and draft me because I want to wreck this league together." That slip by Loggains didnt go over too well with the Browns. "He paid his penance for that," Pettine said. "We made him wear a visor that said, Im a dummy for a day during the spring with the walkthrough." "Coach Pettine has a unique sense of humour," Loggains said. "Im trying to get rid of (the visor). Im waiting for someone else to say something so I can pass it on to the next guy." Earlier Tuesday, the Browns signed unrestricted free-agent quarterback Rex Grossman and waived quarterback Tyler Thigpen. With so much experience in co-ordinator Kyle Shanahans offence, Grossman is happy to help his fellow quarterbacks any way he can. "If anybody has any questions or I feel the need to maybe help out, then I will," he said. "I havent shied back from that in the past and Im here to just help." CALGARY -- The Stampeders have suspended defensive back Quincy Butler, who has been charged with two counts of assault after an incident outside a Calgary casino. "Ive met with Quincy on several occasions about his situation. Obviously, Im highly disappointed any time one of our players finds himself in this type of situation," Stampeders coach and general manager John Hufnagel said in a statement released Friday. "At this time, Quincy and I feel that his efforts would be best spent away from the football club and focusing on his personal matters. Therefore, Quincy will be suspended at the start of training camp on June 1. Upon the resolution of his legal situation, we will reassess the matter and make a determination on his status with the team." Police allege that Butler hit a taxi driver several times at 3 a.m. on May 15 after being asked to pay a deposit before a trip. They also allege that Butler head-butted and punched a man who tried to intervene to help the cab driver. Butler, 30, is scheduled to appear in court on June 26. The loser is relegated to a footnote in a first-of-its-kind meeting in the post-season.Dallas was perfect on the road this year, while Green Bay was perfect at home. Never before has an 8-0 road team in the regular season visited an 8-0 home team in the NFL playoffs. So youve got an immovable object going up against an unstoppable force, Packers fullback John Kuhn said. Which one is going to give, well find out.It should be pretty entertaining in the process. The offences have the potential to match each other score for score. The skill positions are stocked with stars, especially at quarterback.Dallas Tony Romo led the league in the regular season with a 113.2 passer rating, one point ahead of MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers. But the game may not come down to Rodgers right arm.Rodgers has been slowed the last couple weeks in practice by a strained left calf. He has vowed to play, though mobility might be an issue. All signs at the end of the week pointed to Rodgers being ready to go. Rodgers, who was listed as probable on the injury report, can do just as much damage standing the pocket as on the move.Plus, Green Bays offensive line has played well all year.He looks like hes moving fine to me right now. (We are) not going to change anything or our approach of how we want to attack Dallas defence, coach Mike McCarthy said. Most teams might be fretting at the prospect of facing Rodgers at Lambeau, where the Packers have had long stretches of dominance with the ball. The Cowboys seem unfazed. In fact, theyre quite comfortable on the road.We just kind of put our head down and go to work, Romo said. I dont know that we really get affected by where were playing or who were going against and that sort of thing. Here are some things to watch ahead of the teams first meeting since the Packers had a come-from-behind 37-36 win in 2013 in Dallas:CALF WATCH: The most closely-monitored leg muscle in Wisconsin belonged to Rodgers, who first hurt his left calf three weeks ago. He hasnt practiced much over the last week in order to focus on treatment, though most teammates think their veteran leader could play well without any practice at all.ddddddddddddo, Im going Sunday. Just a matter of how, Rodgers said at midweek.McCarthy expects Dallas to stick with a typical scheme that doesnt include much blitzing. The Packers could also line up Rodgers in more shotgun formations to limit his steps.CLEARED COWBOYS: Linebacker Rolando McClain and defensive end Jeremy Mincey cleared concussion tests and practiced Friday after missing the first two workouts of the week dealing with symptoms coming out of the win over Detroit. They are important pieces for the Cowboys, especially against the potent Packers.McClain, though hes had a hard time staying on the field late in the season, has been a stabilizer as a late addition before training camp after Sean Lee was lost for the year to a knee injury.Mincey, who joined Dallas as a free agent after going to the Super Bowl with Denver last season, has been a leader for the line and came on late to lead the team with seven sacks.SLOWING DOWN?: NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray ran for at least 100 yards in 10 of the first 11 games, but has been held under the century mark in four of the past six games, including 75 against the Lions. Hes up to 411 carries and is closing in on doubling his previous career high of 217.I feel fresh, said Murray, who has 1,920 yards in 17 games. I havent missed time. Im feeling good.CLAMPING DOWN: Green Bays run defence improved in the second half of the season. Once the worst unit against the run in the league, the Packers started giving Clay Matthews more snaps at inside linebacker at midseason to help tighten up against the ground game. But stopping Murray will by far be the toughest test for the improved run defence.THIRD GO-ROUND: Romo and Jason Witten have their third chance to reach the NFC championship game. After losing a division-round game to the New York Giants as the No. 1 seed in the NFC during the 2007 season, they followed a wild-card win over Philadelphia with a blowout loss to Brett Favre and Minnesota two years later. Its just exciting to be in this position, Witten said. So much work and the challenges to get back here, you dont take that for granted.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL___AP Sports Writer Schuyler Dixon in Dallas contributed to this story. NEW YORK -- Left-hander Matt Thornton completed his $7 million, two-year contract with the New York Yankees, who cut outfielder Vernon Wells. Thornton gets $3.5 million in each of the next two seasons under the deal, which was agreed to Dec. 17 and announced Friday. His contract raises the Yankees luxury tax payroll for next season to $175.7 million for 13 signed players. Including a pending $2 million, one-year deal for second baseman Brian Roberts and an estimated $11.5 million per team for benefits, New Yorks tax payroll is at $189.2 million -- above the $189 million tax threshold for the upcoming season. However, Alex Rodriguezs $27.5 million luxury-tax salary would disappear if his 211-game suspension is upheld by an arbitrator. The 37-year-old Thornton replaces Boone Logan, who left for a $16.5 million, three-year contract with Colorado. A 10-year big league veteran, Thornton was 0-4 with a 3.74 ERA in 60 relief appearances last season for the Chicago White Sox and Boston, which acquired him in July for minor league outfielder Brandon Jacobs. Wells, who was designated for assignment, was acquired last March from the Los Angeles Angels and hit .233 with 11 homers and 50 RBIs in 424 at-bats. The 35-year-old, a three-time All-Star, became superfluous when the Yankees signed Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran to join an outfield that already included Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki and Alfonso Soriano. New York is responsible for just $2.4 million of Wells $21 million salary in the final season of his $126 million, seven-year contract, with the Angels paying the Yankees $18.6 million as part of the trade last March. A team that signs Wells would be responsible for just $500,000, the major league minimum. On a night in which they barely beat the worst team in the Western Conference, coach Mike Babcock didnt diminish the importance of the much-needed victory. Tomas Tatar scored on Detroits third shootout attempt, and Jimmy Howard stopped all three Edmonton attempts to lift the Red Wings to a 2-1 win over the Oilers on Friday night. "Huge," Babcock said. "Howie, obviously, in the shootout, bailing us out was a real positive for us. "It gives us some confidence." Howard finished with 21 saves. Edmontons Ryan Smyth tied the game midway through the third period. Smyth scored on a shot from the slot that was set up by Detroit defenceman Brendan Smiths backhanded giveaway. "I absolutely didnt expect that," Smyth said. "I thought he was going to throw it around the boards. Smith just threw it up the middle." Riley Sheahan put the Red Wings ahead 1-0 late in the first period. They lost the lead and failed to take advantage of power plays late in regulation and midway through overtime. The banged-up Red Wings are missing numerous key players, including Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, because of injuries and that is forcing players such as Sheahan to go from prospects to NHL players. Sheahan, who played only once in the league in each of the previous two years, said playing 26 games for the Red Wings has made him more comfortable. "Every day is a little step further," he said. "The guys have been awesome. Its a fun atmosphere and a great team to play for." Edmontons franchise is far from the greatness it enjoyed decades ago and is close to being eliminated from the playoff race for the eighth straight season. Oilers coach Dallas Eakins, though, has been pleased with how much effort his players appear to be giving despite their place in the standings. "What weve been preaching to them and they understand, down the stretch aree the building blocks for training camp," Eakins said.dddddddddddd "We dont want to go into full-teaching mode when we hit training camp. We want to hit the ground running and have a foundation on how were going to play. On a lot of nights, were starting to see how we want to play. "We still have such a long way to go to get up to be able to play with the top teams on a nightly basis, but were taking the necessary steps." The last time the Oilers were in the playoffs they beat Detroit in the first round and went on to lose to Carolina in Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup finals. With much less at stake, the Oilers went into the third period with a shot to win at Joe Louis Arena for the first time since 2009. Detroits young lineup didnt generate many scoring chances against Viktor Fasth, who made 22 saves. He was acquired from Anaheim earlier this month for draft picks and won his Oilers debut against Minnesota on Tuesday in a shootout. Each team had only one shot in the opening five minutes of the lacklustre game, which had many more sloppy moments than spectacular stretches. "I didnt think either team was real smooth," Babcock said. "It was kind of a grind." Detroit was up 1-0 after two periods and probably didnt feel comfortable after losing one-third of their previous 27 games when entering the third with the lead. The Red Wings allowed the Oilers to pull into a tie because Smith failed to clear the puck out of their end or at least pass it to a teammate, and Smyth took advantage. "If (Smith) puts it on the guys tape on our team and you skate out through the middle, I like it," Babcock said. "When you turn it over, it doesnt look very good." NOTES: Babcock said he hopes F Darren Helm, who has been out with a concussion since March 4, will play Tuesday night at home against Toronto. ... The Red Wings had lost two straight. ... Edmonton has lost three of four. ... The Red Wings are 13-0-1 in their last 14 against the Oilers, who have lost eight straight in Detroit. St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Marvin Kloss booted four field goals as East beat West by a 19-3 count in the 90th edition of the Shrine Game from Tropicana Field. Dominique Brown of Louisville finished with 70 yards and a rushing score on 19 carries for the East. Georgia quarterback Hutson Mason completed seven of his eight pass attempts for 71 yards in the victory. Taylor Kelly of Arizona State ended 7-of-13 for 65 yards but was sacked twice for the West. NC State kicker Niklas Sades 51-yard make in the fourth quarter was his sides lone points of the contest. Kloss, who played at nearby South Florida, kicked a 39-yard field goal in the first quarter, then added kicks of 30 yards and 47 yards in the second for a 9-0 lead. After Sades long field goal got the West on the board early in the fourth, Kloss added a 19-yard boot with 4:33 to play for a 12-3 advantage. Florida Atlantics Damian Parms then came up with his second interception for the East, leading to Browns 1-yard touchdown run in the final minute. The West finished with just 75 passing yards and only 42 on the ground. Nike Air Max Nettbutikk . Theyre usually only wrapped around his shoulder, not his calf as well. Despite getting a little physically beat up, Hernandez had no problem shutting down Houston. Seattles ace struck out nine over eight strong innings for his third straight victory, Willie Bloomquist provided a jolt of offence with his first home run since 2011 and the Mariners beat the Astros 6-1 on Friday night. "A little bruise. Im fine," Hernandez said. "He got me, he got me pretty good." An extra bruise on Hernandezs left calf was the only downside to Seattles fourth win in five games that has the Mariners back above the .500 mark. Hernandez (6-1) allowed only five hits and continued a strong last two weeks on the mound. After going more than a month between victories, Hernandez has rediscovered his form. He has struck out 21 and walked just two over his last three starts. Four of his nine strikeouts against the Astros were looking, a sign that he had command off his fastball. "Everything was working," Hernandez said. "I was throwing a lot of strikes. The game plan was just to throw strikes and use a lot of fastballs." Bloomquist drove in three runs, but the highlight was his two-run homer just inside the left-field foul pole in the sixth. It was his first long ball since Aug. 10, 2011, when Bloomquist was playing for Arizona, a span of 626 at-bats. Bloomquists homer came on the first pitch after Mike Zunino had doubled off the top of the wall, missing a homer by inches. Bloomquist rounded the bases with a wry smile on his face and appeared to be catching plenty of grief in the dugout for the long lapse between homers. His last homer also came against Houston -- when the Astros were still a National League team -- and led off the bottom of the first inning. "Dont even go there," Bloomquist laughed when asked about his last homer. "I dont want to remember, lets put it that way. Had a lot of ground-rule doubles in the meantime. I know its been a while. Thats not my swiing, but Ill take them when they come if they ever come.dddddddddddd" Kyle Seager also drove in three runs with a two-run single in the first and a broken-bat blooper in the seventh. Robinson Cano also had two hits, raising his batting average to .326. The only batter to cause Hernandez fits was Jose Altuve, who improved to 8-for-16 all-time against Seattles ace. Altuve had an RBI single in the third, doubled in the fifth and lined a single off Hernandezs calf in the eighth. Hernandez stayed in and started an inning-ending double play from Dexter Fowler for his final batter. It was the second straight start Hernandez pitched eight innings. "Felix was pretty darn good tonight in a lot of different ways," Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said. "Certainly with his pitch count he was very efficient and he fielded the ball with his glove and his leg." Houstons Rudy Owens made his major league debut after getting called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on short notice. The Astros decided to skip Brad Peacocks scheduled start after he experienced soreness in his forearm. Owens struggled through the first inning then settled down. He kept Houston within 3-1 heading into the sixth despite allowing a baserunner in every inning. The game got away from Owens (0-1) in just a couple of pitches. After giving up the double to Zunino, Owens watched Bloomquist hit the first pitch out. Owens was optioned back to Oklahoma City after the game. "We just couldnt muster anything offensively against Felix and that pretty much was the difference in the ballgame," Houston manager Bo Porter said. Cooney completed the run with his seventh 03.01.2019 03:09 Forum: Forum

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Trevor Cooney has hit shooting touch back -- just in the nick of time for top-ranked Syracuse. Cooney scored a career-high 33 points, matching a school record with nine 3-pointers, and the Orange beat Notre Dame 61-55 on Monday night in another matchup of former Big East foes. After struggling to a woeful 25.4 per cent (14 of 55) from behind the arc in his first seven Atlantic Coast Conference games, Cooney has hit 11 of 13 in the past two games and was the difference against the Irish as the Oranges front line faltered. "It feels good," Cooney said. "I kind of got going and guys just found me in good spots." Syracuse (22-0, 9-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), which moved to No. 1 this week after its scintillating 91-89 overtime victory over Duke on Saturday night and Arizonas loss to California, extended its school record for most consecutive wins to start a season. Notre Dame (12-11, 3-7) has lost seven of nine. Two days after one of the most emotional wins in Jim Boeheims 38 years as head coach, Syracuse played its first game as the nations top team since the 2011-12 season. Two years ago, the Orange were unbeaten and ranked No. 1 when they went to South Bend, and Notre Dame upset them 67-58. It was the eighth time Notre Dame had beaten a No. 1 team and turned out to be Syracuses lone loss of the regular season. "That was in the back of my mind," said C.J. Fair, who had a season-low six points on 2-of-13 shooting after scoring a career-high 28 against Duke. "I didnt want that to happen again." Cooney made sure there was no repeat, hitting five 3-pointers in the first half as the Orange gained a 13-point halftime advantage, then barely held the Irish at bay in the second half. "We put ourselves in position to make it interesting," Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said. "We came into this game, and especially if you watch what they did to Duke, beating them up in the paint. You really try to take stuff away in the paint. I thought overall with the guys that destroy you in the paint we did a good job. But we couldnt do a good job on Cooney. Seven of the nine I think we challenged. He was just in one of those zones, and youve got to take your hat off." Cooney, 9 of 12 from long range, matched the record set by Gerry McNamara in the 2004 NCAA tournament and equaled by Andy Rautins in 2008 and James Southerland in 2012. Jerami Grant and Fair, who combined for 54 points against Duke, combined for just 15, while Tyler Ennis found little room in the lane to penetrate and finished with six points and eight assists. Garrick Sherman led Notre Dame with 16 points, Steve Vasturia had 13, and Pat Connaughton 11, while Eric Atkins had nine on 3-of-10 shooting. Notre Dame closed within 38-32 on a 3-pointer from Atkins with 14:19 to play, but Syracuse responded with seven straight points. Grant slammed home a dunk after his block on Sherman and Fair followed with a slam off a Grant miss. Cooney completed the run with his seventh 3-pointer, which tied his personal best. The Irish have four long-range threats in Atkins, Connaughton, Vasturia, and Demetrius Jackson, who had combined for 127 3-pointers on the season entering the game, and Notre Dames long-range attack came alive in the second half after going 1 of 6 in the first 20 minutes. Two 3-pointers by Atkins, Vasturias three-point play and a slam dunk by Tom Knight moved the Irish back within 43-40 with 8:41 to go. Grant responded with a spinning drive through the lane and Cooney hit another 3. Grant then fed Cooney for a reverse layup and three-point play and Cooney hit his ninth 3 for a 54-44 lead with 4:14 to play. Notre Dame refused to wilt, pulling back to 54-49 on Connaughtons three-point play at 2:52. "Thats who this group is," Brey said. "We havent been able to get over the hump and win enough. Weve been down on the road just about every time, and we come back and give ourselves a chance. I love that about us. If we keep doing that enough, I think well get a couple of them." Grants layup off a feed from Ennis and two free throws by Ennis boosted the lead back to eight, and the Orange made it interesting when Ennis and Fair each missed the front end of 1-and-1s in the final minute. Atkins missed a floater and Connaughton was off on a 3-point attack in the final seconds. "I had a look and missed, which would have been a really big shot for us," Atkins said. "That was a huge play. But they played great. They made plays when they were needed." Grossiste Air Max Belgique ... maybe even more than that. Maybe all season I have to take a few blows. A second memorandum of understanding 03.01.2019 03:06 Forum: Forum

MARKHAM, Ont. -- A proposed NHL-size arena in Markham, Ont., is moving one step closer to being built. Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti says the city has signed two new memorandums of understanding that mean no taxpayer dollars will be used to build the arena. He says a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the private sector that will see half of the projects $325 million cost covered by developers and the lease of the arena itself. A second memorandum of understanding has been signed between the city and GTA Sports and Entertainment, which will cover the other half of building costs. "This is a very positive step towards bringing a world-class facility to Markham", said Scarpitti. "The support from our developer community has been outstanding. They are stepping up again like they did for other projects like the YMCA and the expansion of the Markham Stouffville Hospital. "The benefits for Markham are significant, including hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in economic activity for local businesses." The two agreements mean the city no longer has to taken on loans for the project, which would now be 100 per cent privately funded. Both memorandums of understanding need approval of Markham city council for the project to move forward. Details of the two agreements will be presented to residents at a city council meeting on Monday. Scarpitti says the proposed 20,000 seat arena -- which will be called the GTA Centre -- doesnt need an NHL franchise to thrive. Jordan 12 Cheap Real .
